This section is dedicated to the musical collaboration between myself and Tony Vincent Isaacs.
I have known Tony for many years, and as a clarinettist and saxophonist he has worked with me in many musical settings. Over the last few years he has collaborated with me as a lyricist, on a collection of songs, and more recently on some carols for full choir. His great strength as a lyricist is his understanding of melody and musical phrasing. His lyrics always scan perfectly without being trite or obvious.
You can hear demo samples of the music below. These pieces have not been recorded commercially as yet. Please contact me if you are interested in hearing more or would like to perform any of them.
Tony started playing music and dabbling at song-writing in his childhood. He took up
clarinet in mid-teens, playing jazz, and then served in the East Surrey Regiment Band as a clarinetist.
Whilst pursuing a career in architecture he developed his playing and music writing skills studying with Anthony Milner and Hugh Wood at Morley College and took some piano with Professor James Ching.
His first recorded song was by Frankie Vaughan in the mid 60's. Subsequently he wrote lyrics for artists including Ward Swingle and Swingle II, The Light Blues, The King's Singers and The Vasari Singers.
Over the years Tony has collaborated with composers including Ivan Chandler, David Bedford, Goff Richards, Jeremy Lubbock, Antonin Tucapsky, Bob Chilcott, Ward Swingle and Christopher Bowers-Broadbent - writing libretti for his two operas: 'The Seacock Bane' and 'The Last Man'.
He now writes in partnership with Martin Pickett and plays sax and clarinet in Martin's Trio and Quintet and in his own band Ultra Swing Shift.
